Milan, 8 July 2019 – The Ermenegildo Zegna Group, a leader in luxury menswear with a consolidated leadership in top-drawer fabric production, has sealed an agreement for acquiring the majority shareholding of the Dondi Group. The company is based in Carpi (Modena), and is a leader in manufacturing high-quality jersey fabrics for men and women, all made exclusively in Italy.
With this agreement, which follows the one signed in 2016 with the Bonotto family, the Zegna Group not only strengthens its standing in women’s fabrics, but also achieves a sizeable expansion in the specialisation of its own textile supply chain (previously composed of Lanificio Zegna, Lanerie Agnona and Tessitura di Novara). In so doing, it has become one of a kind in Italy for its variety of goods and size.
The agreement states that the Dondi Capelli family will maintain a 35% holding in the share capital, and responsibility for running the business and its creative management.
“It is an investment geared towards heightening direct control of the textile supply chain,” states Ermenegildo Zegna, CEO of the Zegna Group, “which features a variety of products, all made entirely in Italy. We have had business relations with the Dondi Group for some time now, and the family history is in many ways similar to our own, starting with their profound respect for corporate autonomy. I feel sure that together we will not only be able to pursue challenging goals, but we will also enhance the value of Made in Italy”.
“The Ermenegildo Zegna Group is the perfect partner for pursuing our entrepreneurial journey, which began with our parents, Lauro and Edda Dondi, in 1970,” add Lorella and Stefano Dondi. “From the very outset, our consolidated technical and style know-how has allowed us to develop a broad range of high-quality fabrics, which have proven successful with the biggest fashion houses here and abroad. Like Zegna, we too believe in tradition, in the intrinsic excellence of Italian products, and in building a highly specialised textile supply chain structured around quality and innovation”.
